HIKING HOLIDAYS ROUND TRIP WILDSTRUBEL
Alpine cross times two The Wildstrubel massif towers defiantly into the sky, separating Bernese Oberland from Valais. But this mountain range can be surmounted. The rock face that you climb on the south side of the Alps near Leukerbad to reach the Gemmi Pass is almost 800 metres high. It is here where the gateway to Bernese Oberland opens up. Pretty chalets, idyllic green Alpine meadows and charming villages are waiting. But the crossing of the north side of the Alps is challenging as well. A long hike over the Rawil Pass takes you to Lac de Tzeuzier. The peaks of the highest mountains of Valais reflect in the water and you descend to Crans-Montana along spectacular irrigation channels carved into the rock. The Wildstrubel separates two of the most beautiful areas of the Swiss Alps - with this hike you connect both worlds.
TAKE AN EXCURSION TO DISCOVER THE OTHER FACETS OF THE WILDSTRUBEL MASSIF
On the border between the Valais and Bernese regions of Switzerland, discover unspoilt playgrounds and enjoy the thermal baths for recuperation!
DISCOVERING THE BERNESE OBERLAND
Countless smaller valleys branch off the main Kander, Engstlige and Simmental valleys. The varied landscape means plenty of space for longer excursions in the valley basin or high-altitude tours at and above the tree line. No wonder the area is much loved by mountain hikers and walkers as well as cyclists and e-bikers.
At each rest stop, the athlete briefly becomes a tourist. In Adelboden, a detour to take in the Choleren Gorge or Hostalde suspension bridge is rewarding; in Kandersteg, the path to the wildly romantic Gasterntal valley is a must, while at Lenker Betelberg the bizarre “Gryden” crater landscape promises not to disappoint. The local gastronomy is sure to round off the day in an appropriate manner. Specialities to look out for include alpine cheese or locally farmed trout. In addition to popular regional cuisine, Adelboden and Kandersteg are home to various award-winning fine-dining restaurants where seasonal cuisine meets a lot of creativity and skill.
